FDM / Batch production

Start with a part.
Make it a batch.

Need 100–200 parts of the same design? We review the file, application and finish, then plan production around your quantity.

Before the full production run

Before the batch,
check the sample.

Confirm the fit, material and appearance with a sample before moving on to the remaining parts.

  1. Define what the part needs to do

Send a file, quantity and description of the application. Connections to other parts, loads and heat exposure are worth mentioning from the start.

  2. Choose the material & orientation

In FDM, layer orientation affects both strength and appearance. We review the requirements and choose an approach accordingly.

  3. Approve a sample

Arrange a sample to check fit and finish against your project requirements. If changes are needed, update the design before batch production.

  4. Move into production

With the details agreed, we confirm the final quantity, inspection requirements and delivery date.

Before we start

What else
should you know?

Do I have to order 100 parts?

No. This page focuses on runs of 100–200 parts, but we assess each project according to its design and required quantity. Tell us how many you actually need.

Which materials can you print?

The main materials we use at the studio are:

  • PLAFor display models and prototypes used to assess shape.
  • ABSFor functional parts and enclosures requiring mechanical and heat resistance.
  • ASAFor outdoor parts where resistance to sunlight and weather matters.
  • PETGFor brackets, enclosures and functional parts in everyday use.
  • TPUFor flexible parts such as covers and feet.
  • PCPolycarbonate — for projects requiring strength and heat resistance.

These are starting points for material selection. The final material and colour depend on load, heat, flexibility and geometry, and are confirmed in the quote.

What is the maximum print size?

The largest build volume available at the studio is 360 × 360 × 360 mm. The usable dimensions depend on the material, orientation and space needed for supports. Send us the file and we’ll confirm the feasible size in your quote.

What finish can I expect?

FDM can leave visible layer lines. Tell us which surfaces are visible and what appearance you need. Material, colour and any finishing work are assessed as part of the quote.

What should I send for a quote?

A STEP, STL, 3MF or OBJ file, the quantity and intended use. You can include a drawing with critical dimensions. For multiple models, specify the quantity of each. If you don’t have a file, start with a description or sketch.

What determines the price and lead time?

Part size, geometry, material, quantity and finish. Mention any sample approval stage or deadline so we can include it in the production plan and quote.

How do I know whether FDM is right for my project?

Send us the requirements and we’ll review them together. If the geometry or finish calls for another process, we can also consider SLS printing or SLA.
